Ramírez-González is a biologist who researches tropical and vector-borne diseases, including Chagas, Dengue and West Nile virus, and foodborne parasitic diseases such as Cyclospora, Giardia and Cryptosporidium. He is studying the presence of Chagas disease in Florida, where infected kissing bugs have been discovered in more than 20 counties and are carriers of an underrecognized disease that can lead to chronic heart damage if left undiagnosed. He is available for English- and Spanish-language interviews.
