TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 2, 2014) – The University of South Florida's Cirque du Student Success put the spotlight on some of its best and brightest student innovators and inventors Aug. 27. The event focused attention to the resources Florida devotes to higher education truly becoming the “smart money” that is helping create a more successful future for the state through more advanced health care, new technologies that are the basis for start-up companies and job creation, new programs such as the Florida Center for Cybersecurity at USF and using new tools to preserve and promote history, music and art.
In this festive event, attendees felt the energy from the USF Tesla Coil, a
modern-day lightning machine that helps students understand how science and
engineering come together. They met BaxBot the robot, who helps people with
disabilities relearn the skills of daily living. The audience also checked out
the NEWgenerator from the College of Engineering, which was created to help
convert wastewater to nutrients and energy. Visitors had the opportunity
to tour the new home of the Florida Center for Cybersecurity with director Sri
Sridharan. They also learned more about how digital scanning is helping preserve the
world's important cultural heritage sites with the team from the Alliance for Integrated Spacial Technology (AIST).
From entering via a ride with USF’s business students’ conducting elevator
pitches to photo ops with Ringmaster Rocky, student demonstrations and live
feature acts the Cirque Du Student Success was indeed a show to remember.
