TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 24, 2014) – Kristen Iversen, the author
of this year’s USF Common Reading Experience book, “Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the
Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats,” will speak Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in the
Marshall Student Center Ballroom. Doors
open at 6:30 p.m. with a book signing immediately following her talk at 8
p.m. This event is free and open to the
public.
Approximately 1700 Academic Foundations (AF) and 7500 First Year Composition (FYC) students are reading “Full Body Burden,” while other graduate and undergraduate faculty have the option of choosing to read the book throughout the 2014-2015 academic year.
Reviews of “Full Body Burden” promise an inspiring reading experience: “terrifyingly brilliant,” says author Simon Winchester; “profoundly shocking,” from the reviewer in the Denver Post; “hauntingly beautiful,” says author Kai Bird; and “personal and powerful,” says author Rebecca Skloot, who spoke at USF in 2011 in conjunction with that year's CRE choice, her book “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.”
Iversen’s
visit to USF includes meeting with various groups of students in the morning
and afternoon from FYC, AF, and Honors College as well as lunch and dinner
dates with different groupings of faculty, staff, graduate assistants and resident
assistants.
