Friedman studies collaborative learning, developing innovative teaching tools based on visualization theories and exploring new knowledge through statistical and visualization techniques. His current projects include an NSF-suppoprted Visual Peer Review Dashboard, the application of Peirce's sign theory through the lens of AI and studies in art and visual communication.
