Rains' research focuses on wetlands, estuaries and rivers -- including hydrological controls on ecosystem structure and function in fresh, brackish, saline and hypersaline aquatic ecosystems.

Landry's research often address issues related to water, wetlands, urban forest and land cover change. Specific areas of interest including spatial and temporal dynamics of human-environmental interactions, environmental equity, water resource management and policy, applied geospatial technology and online public education and decision support systems.
