Dunn is an expert in global disaster management and preparedness, including for vulnerable populations. She also researches humanitarian relief, homeland security, community resilience, refugee resettlement and migration, international humanitarian assistance, human security and anti-human trafficking.

McCracken's research focuses on how power, language, gender and sexuality are intertwined. She completed a Fulbright Specialist Project in collaboration with the New Zealand Prostitutes' Collective to investigate the presence of violence and trafficking in the sex industry in a country where prostitution is decriminalized. She has conducted trainings for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration-supported organizations, public defenders, human trafficking coalitions and non-profit organizations.
