McCracken's research focuses on how power, language, gender and sexuality are intertwined. She completed a Fulbright Specialist Project in collaboration with the New Zealand Prostitutes' Collective to investigate the presence of violence and trafficking in the sex industry in a country where prostitution is decriminalized. She has conducted trainings for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration-supported organizations, public defenders, human trafficking coalitions and non-profit organizations.

Joshi's research focuses on violence against women and children. She is co-founder and director of the USF School of Social Work Interdisciplinary Lab, which offers interdisciplinary training to students in social work, public health, biomedical sciences, psychology and other fields. Her funded research has focused on topics including immigrant South Asian women survivors of intimate partner violence and mental health for pregnant Haitian teens.
