Yin studies emotional expression in online environments, user-generated content (e.g., online word-of-mouth) and AI-generated content (e.g., chatbots). His primary expertise in methodology is laboratory experimentation, and he has also used other methods such as field experiments, econometric analyses, surveys and machine learning.
