This work is pointed at the larger question: What are the biggest threats to modern workers aiming to live healthy, fulfilling, long lives, and how can we move toward effective solutions?

As an anthropologist working in social marketing, Parvanta studies how culture affects health behavior and develops audience-informed health and safety interventions. Her research uses social marketing to address college student vaping and emerging nicotine products. She is also using facial expression and vocal analysis tools to identify effective tobacco cessation counseling approaches.

Whitt is a licensed psychologist and executive director of the Florida Center for Behavioral Health Workforce at the University of South Florida. In October 2025, the center launched the state’s first interactive dashboard that projects behavioral health workforce supply and demand through 2035. Whitt is an expert in behavioral health workforce and integrated primary care psychology and policy.

Crousillat's research focuses on cardiovascular disease in women, cardio-obstetrics, echocardiography and pregnancy and heart disease.

Tometich studies cancer-related cognitive impairment, health behavior change for symptom management and patient-reported outcomes of novel cancer treatments.

D'Agostino is a research scientist in the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition and an expert in neuroscience, nutrition physiology, cancer, ketogenic diet supplementation and environmental physiology. Michael is an epidemiologist who studies the spread and control of global infectious diseases. population biology, computational disease dynamics and the ecology of disease transmission. His work includes the development and implementation of novel analytical and computational approaches for providing a deeper understanding of the determinants, pathways and dynamics of disease transmission.

Perez-Colon can discuss medical education, global health, disaster relief and health disparities. She has led efforts to provide free clinics and disaster relief to underserved populations in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador and Jamaica. She co-founded USF's COVID-19 virtual clinic, the CoCo Clinic, during the pandemic.

Daley is a behavioral researcher with interests in women's health, health literacy, reproductive health, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) prevention, HPV vaccines, adolescent health and health risk-taking behaviors.

Halade's research focuses on how unresolved chronic inflammation and immune responsive metabolic dysregulation contributes to ischemic and non-ischemic heart failure. He aims to translate those findings for use in human therapy, considering risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, aging and oncological drugs.

Rahill's research focuses on reducing health and mental health disparities for Haitians, HIV, disasters, trauma and sexual violence.

Calloway is a research audiologist in USF’s Auditory Rehabilitation & Clinical Trials Laboratory and an expert in audiology, hearing rehabilitation, amplification, cognition and hearing and clinical drug trials.

Collaborating with international colleagues, Martin studies the endocrine and immune systems of both native and introduced sparrow populations. His team also examines how stress shapes the spread of zoonotic diseases like West Nile virus and how body size influences immune system structure in mammals. His latest grant supports research into how natural environmental changes affect the immune systems of small mammals that carry the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease.

Cooke is a molecular scientist who is currently leading research backed by a $2 million grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to develop a novel device for automating the comet assay — essentially making it easier and faster to test cells for DNA damage. The goal is to produce a commercialization-ready device that will help researchers better understand how DNA damage affects health and disease, leading to better prevention and treatment strategies.

Gallo is director of the USF Health Virology Institute and a globally recognized expert in virology, HIV/AIDS, human retroviruses, global health, cancer and microbial oncology. His is widely known for the co-discovery in 1984 that HIV was the cause of AIDS and for his development of the HIV blood test.

Hauser is director of the USF Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center and an expert in Parkinson’s Disease, neurology and movement disorders. His recent study surveyed hundreds of Parkinson's patients and found that the tremors associated with the disease are more difficult to control than previously believed.

Kirby's research interests are broadly in maternal and child health, with specific on population-based research in birth defects and developmental disabilities, epidemiology and prevention, as well as on risk factors for adverse pregnancy outcomes. Yuan's research focuses on cellular and molecular regulation of cardiovascular function in health and disease. She investigates the signaling mechanisms of cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions in microcirculation during inflammation, trauma, infection, sepsis, atherosclerosis, diabetes and metastatic tumor development.

Mohapatra is an expert in nanobioengineering whose research focuses on applying biomedical nanotechnologies for the improved diagnosis and treatment of human diseases, including the development of new drugs that can target cancer stem cells.

Panguluri is a biotechnologist whose research focuses on genomic mechanisms of central taste process, hyperoxia (excess oxygen levels), cardiovascular/arrhythmia topics and diabetic cardiomyopathy.

Vermund is senior associate vice president of USF Health and dean of the University of South Florida College of Public Health. He serves as a Distinguished University Health Professor of Public Health and Pediatrics. In addition, he is director of the Cancer Control Prevention and Epidemiology Program for Tampa General Hospital and chief medical officer of the Global Virus Network, an international organization headquartered at USF.

Prescott was a neonatal intensive care bedside nurse and educator for fifteen years before becoming a board-certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. While working at INOVA Children’s Hospital, a top 40 ranked, 108 bed, Level IV neonatal intensive care unit, she attended the University of Virginia to obtain her PhD, and then worked at the National Institutes of Health in the Laboratory of Integrative Immunology as a research fellow and then a postdoctoral trainee studying the microbiome and immune response to immunotherapy in the setting of advanced melanoma.

Mohapatra is a cancer researcher whose lab is focused on understanding tumor growth, drug resistance and recurrence. Her team is working to develop methods and technologies to expand cancer stem cells that drive tumor initiation and progression, identify novel drug candidates for targeting cancer stem cells and sensitize tumors to immune checkpoint blockers in colon and lung cancer models.

Bernard's research focus includes industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, evaluation and control of heat stress and strain ergonomics. He studies the effects of protective clothing on the level of heat stress and on the benefits of personal cooling systems, and the evolution of a framework for analyzing short-cycle manufacturing jobs that systematically examines biomechanics, muscle fatigue and cumulative trauma.

McDonald is an expert in genetic heart disease, arrhythmia and cardiomyopathy. His lab investigates the precise mechanisms of how genetic variation causes diseases particular to the patient.

Chenneville's research focuses on the psychosocial issues affecting children and youth living with or at risk for HIV along with broader issues related to sexual health. She has collaborated with colleagues in Kenya, South Africa, India, England and Canada

Yeatman's research focuses on the genomics of colon cancer, biomarker development and drug repurposing. He serves as Associate Director of Translational Research at the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute.

Wills can discuss infectious diseases, HIV medicine, Hepatitis C, global health and medical education. His research focuses on novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to the management of HIV and Hepatitis C and on health care in resource-limited domestic and international settings.

Quast can discuss health outcomes after hurricanes and other disasters, including problems connecting enrollees with insurance providers after catastrophic events. He also studies the emerging use of artificial intelligence, including predictive analytics, in clinical health care settings to anticipate utilization, optimize staffing and improve patient outcomes. He has expertise in child maltreatment and the foster care system.

Sanchez is principal investigator and director of USF’s Auditory Rehabilitation & Clinical Trials Laboratory and an expert in audiology, speech perception, auditory rehabilitation, hearing loss treatment and translational research.
